2006 EOH Project: Solar Ethanol Still

2006 EOH Project: Solar Ethanol Still

Wouldn't it be nice to power your car on clean burning ethanol instead of gasoline? Think it would be cool to produce that ethanol without using any fossil fuels? You can! Its called a solar still, and it uses the sun's energy to distill alcohol. EWB will be building a solar still for EOH this year.
Most gasoline in the United States already has 10% ethanol in it already. Some cars in production today can be run on E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline). All cars can be converted to ethanol relatively easily. A common example is the Ford Taurus, which is factory built to run on E85.
Help us educate everyone about the advantages against pollution, fuel costs, and dependance on foreign oil ethanol has; while using your engineering skills to build something.
Please discuss the project here or leave any comments that you would like. Be sure to visit the EOH committee page for any updates on the project.
