6th Board Meeting 02/21/2008

Posted by Jason Jewell on Wed, 03/12/2008 - 01:16 in

Project Focus - There is a practice talk this Sunday in 112 Eng Hall for our upcoming Project Focus. You can come and criticize their presentation.

$50,000 Challenge - The results are out. We barely eeked out ninth place with 48 donations, but we got dem Bennies ($1,000). We were only outdonated by 4 universities: Northern Arizona University (they definitely cheated), Michigan Tech (if you've been to a regional or international conference, you know why), Arizona, and UMass. Be sure to thank everyone you know who donated.

EOH - If anyone knows where we can borrow some thermal goggles, that'd be sweet. They are too expensive to rent. Also, e-mail Patrick if you want an EOH T-shirt for $4.
We need volunteers to help out at EOH (not for our project). E-mail Amanda if you can work an hour or two during EOH.

Fundraising - People gave feedback on banquet. A list will soon be posted by the dry erase board in the office of who owes what. Threatening letters are postponed until next week.
Katia is going to look into having an African-themed dinner/party/concert.
Someone threw out the idea of doing a raffle with the university radio station.

Laura is going to put a can in the office for donations to buy mosquito nets for people in Uganda. More fundraising methods will follow.

Laura and Amanda are going to plan getting sweatshirts or T-shirts. Get the money before ordering so we don't lose our asses like last semester.

The regional conference committee needs a leader/conference coordinator. No one on the board volunteered. Projects should ask their members.

The Natural Cooling project has been put on hiatus.

See last weeks minutes for info on the YMCA. Kasey is a useful resource, at

    * Prepared supplies for global warming experiments at CMS...scavenged through recycling and trash bins in my neighborhood, went to Target for the first time here, spent two hours with Jason making BTB solution and then chased after a bus the next morning to retrieve it
    * Went to the CMS Tuesday and Wednesday to conduct the experiments with the students
    * Contacted Mahomet Youth Group again about outreach
    * Contacted an Education college sorority about helping with outreach
    * Made a poster about Electric Cars (check it out!) and prepared for the E-week cheap lunch event (sorry for not publicizing it enough for all of you, I was very late in planning the details of this)  Lots of people enjoyed the video though until gyros ran out and looked at our posters, which were strategically put next to the lunch line
    * Wrote lots of Enugu stuff for the TAC committee until 3 am on Saturday
    * Biodiesel meeting, EOH meeting, Outreach meeting with my loyal attendant Suhail
