2008 Midyear Improvements Thread

It's that time of the year that the 2008 executive board is familiar with the majority of EWB activities in and around campus and how they are run. The board has identified several areas of improvement:

  • Project Management
  • Project Resources
  • "No Money"
  • Transitions (transfer of knowledge to new board)

Anyone, especially if a board member, is welcome to suggest ways for EWB to improve in these areas. Just be sure to explain how your ideas can be implemented. Saying "need more money" doesn't help much, for example, but saying "getting departmental project funding" does. Details in board minutes.

Luke Fencl: Project Management

Here's an Idea for project management:

A dedicated officer position for each project should be recruitment. This means that during every meeting this officer spends time bringing people up to speed on what is going on if they are unaware. Gets more people involved and discourages the slightly less than motivated freshman.

Project Management
  1. We need a website usage workshop for projects which I would lead. Maybe we could have a trial run with this by having this workshop for interested members and mainly the board.
  2. Periodic budget updates should be sent to the treasurer. A formal system should be set up so that Paul is informed about what is coming in and going out.
  3. Project leads should not have to come to board meetings, but they should be encouraged to send members to board meetings so that project interests are still met by the board.
  4. Provide workshops to teach the skills projects need, also including recruiting skills.
  5. Keep in touch with recruited freshmen to excited to help out a project later on. This would mean some member bookkeeping is necessary for projects.
