In Summer 2005 the Orissa project team installed a generator modified to run on straight vegetable oil (SVO) intended to power agricultural equipment for income generation and ultimately domestic lighting in Badakamandara, Orissa, India. Two team members, Maren Somers and Patrick Walsh, returned to the village in December 2006 and found that within months of our departure in 2005, the community sucessfully installed an electric grid and has provided electricity to over 50 homes, mainly powering CFL lighting. They have established several community systems to provide locally produced vegetable oil and maintain the equipment. Thus, the project has been a great success! More to come on the Orissa Project soon!
