Engineers Without Borders is an international nonprofit organization committed to advancing the quality of life in impoverished countries via socioeconomically and ecologically sustainable engineering projects. Students from all disciplines design and implement these projects. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign chapter is founded on the philosophy of helping developing countries while also holding local events to educate the masses about sustainable development. Please visit our project webpages and join a committee!
For those interested in finding out more about sustainability and how it can permanently affect your course selection and career aspirations. Here is some brain food. I also encourage you to feed this committee with any brain food you may have to offer. More food is always a good thing.
Here's a little compilation of some of the most commonly asked questions about sustainability at UIUC. If you have any commentary or additions, please contact Jen at (gaddis [at] uiuc [dot] edu). This document needs to be kept up to date... So if you're browsing through it and recognize you organization, please feel free to edit it and post a new version. Thanks!
International Impact (a registered student organization) sends students abroad every semester. This year, we want to do things a little differently, so one project is specifically designed to research and test out a few new programs in South America. These will vary from organized volunteer programs to community organizations. International Impact would be delighted if any members of EWB are interested in participating in this venture! If you're interested or would like more information, contact internationalimpact [at] gmail [dot] com.
