Information:

Welcome to the EWB-UIUC Aprovecho project.  This project's purpose is to design a portable toxic gas sensing device that can be used to evaluate the efficiency of wood-burning stoves.  Through Aprovecho, we're connected to NGO's all over the world that need ways to test their stove designs in the field, as opposed to in the laboratory.  We're currently in the design process and could use some new members, regardless of experience.

Emissions Sensing Prototypes

The first three prototypes of the emissions sensing device have been built and tested. One will go to the EWB group and two will go to Professor Bond.

Emissions Sensing Device Prototypes
These are the first three prototypes created for the emissions sensing device project. The top prototype is showing the menu in Spanish, middle showing the language selection dialog, and bottom showing the data screen.

There is still a lot to do, including finalizing our choices for sensors, getting the device running on batteries, and getting PCBs made. Our entire effort (firmware, hardware, documentation) is open-source, released under the MIT license. Unfortunately we are currently using a proprietary C compiler as no FOSS compiler for our microprocessor (PIC18F4455) seems to exist.

First Biomass Emissions Device Meeting

EWB Office in Engineering Hall (110C) - first floor, east wing - will tape a note if relocated

We're going to have a meeting next Friday at 2:30 pm. We will meet in
the EWB office on the first floor, east wing of Engineering Hall and
we'll leave a note on the door if we move from there. You don't have to stay
for the entire time, we're just allocating two hours in case in case we have so
much fun we can't stop.

This meeting is for everybody - newcomers, translators, technical
writers, software people, hardware people, and anybody else. I want
to go over where we are on the manual and the electronics, both of
which are coming along nicely, talk about what else needs to be done,
and then actually work for a while, breaking into groups - working on
the manual, and, if the PCB works like I hope, I will have a couple
more built, and we can assemble them at the meeting.

Stove Emissions Manual Meeting

Version 1.0 of the emissions testing device is almost ready, so time to make this manual happen! Come to the manual meeting this thursday, learn about the project, and help with the manual!

504 E White St. #35

We'll be meeting at my apartment on Sunday at 2pm for a technical meeting. This should be an exciting one since the LCD is working, and much of the interface (main menu, setting the language/time) is working. Feel free to come if you just want to see the device, too.

Things to do Sunday (I could use a lot of help with these!):

Interested in Non-Technical Part of Stove Emissions Project?

Posted by sdutta3 on Mon, 04/17/2006 - 22:17 in

If anyone is interested in working on the non-technical part of the stove emissions device, please contact Paula Estock (estock [at] uiuc [dot] edu). We are working on the manual and translating it into French and Spanish. Also, we will need help with a design and a name for the device. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Emissions Manual and Design Meeting

110C Engineering Hall (EWB office)

Come and help write the manual for the device being used for the stove emissions project. We will need people who can translate into french and/or spanish eventually! This is very little commitment, so come help as much as you have time for. You can also come if you would like to just learn about the project!
